Designing a hero

Let’s crank it up and think of a hero. A main character for a short-story that will eventually become a screenplay emerges naturally once you answer the following questions:

  1. Where is he? What is his ordinary world, his comfort zone?
  2. What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?
  3. How willing or unwilling is he or she to do something about it?
  4. What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need?
  5. Does he or she have friends? Who are they?
  6. What about enemies?
  7. What is his or her age?
  8. What’s his or her gender?

The last thing you need is a name. And many literary or cinematic heroes don’t even have one.

Begin describing your hero. It could be your final hero, or it could be the hero for one of your first stories. Use the comment section to submit your character. Only use the reply button if you want to comment on your peer’s submission’s.

Location: central downtown Detroit, Michigan. Gage (last name unknown) is a 32 year old, Caucasian male. He’s a lightly temperamental individual whom sometimes finds amusement while mocking and patronizing others, he’s aware of his flaws. Gage enjoys the “mundane and exacerbating pleasure” of being a telemarketer at DBZ Inc. A middle wage, remedial benefits distributing, agent degrading, suicide promoting firm whom sole purpose is to exploit employees due to the traceable knowledge that jobs in this sector and contemporary economy are not easy to come across by. The telemarketer agent manager who consistently irks Gage for bullshit about being rude to callers and not complying with corporate norms regarding negligible issues, which the average person in the workplace would generally overlook, is Peter Bush (Quality Call Supervisor a.k.a. a fucking asshole). At work he interacts with a couple individuals; Manny is the closest friend Gage has in and outside the workplace, J.B. and Nick work in accounting, and Laura is a co-worker who has made sexual advances toward Gage; he doesn’t dismiss, but neither does he take action towards taking her up on her offer. He simply likes the nurture of imaging himself having sex in his boss’s office after telling his wife to fuck-off for being a perpetual nagger. Gage is ultimately in constant distress due to his prior and present family misfortunes. As a naïve individual, Gage wedded his high school sweet heart, Pam. Soon after they had their first child, Robert (named after his late grandfather, Gages father) later on came Natalie or as he calls her ‘Naty’. As in most reoccurring social predicaments, Gage experiments restrained resentments regarding the possibilities and alternate outcome of his life might he had chosen to explore the vast sea of the affluent female silhouette. Albeit, he continues to stride along with his daily rituals and parental obligations in an attempt to provide a better life than the one he experienced and somewhat continues to live through the peripheral isolation that has become of his mother, sister and brother. Gage is on the verge of discovering the motivation to implement the necessary change that is needed to improve his life at his principal home with his wife and children, and the home he left behind but continues to haunt his everyday existence. He comes across a show that is similar to Dr. Phil’s minus the pretentious and ostentatious candor. On the show a family that included individuals of various types such as a drunken uncle, irritable sister, delinquent son and an estranged father have been able to reconcile their relationship while successfully eradicating their personal character addictions and imperfections. At first, Gage views the show as a palpable and tangible aspiration for self and family-improvement, yet with the blink of an eye came the mistrusting and cumbersome reality he had come to acquire through years of misfortune, he now viewed the on-air situation as pseudo-hope. He sees his wife and kids deviate from the path he ideally wants for them and after having a current encounter with his drug addicted sister, which was immediately followed by a phone call from his unforgiving and irate mother, he sees the magnitude of the dysfunction in his family life. He now aims to mend the wounds in his family, write a new chapter for his family beginning with his mother, sister and brother. Due to heavy snow fall his usual route to work is altered, he passes by a building that has various forms of counseling for intricate problems, individuals and associated group. To not give a further extensive explanation, he meets the individual that motivates or propels him to improve himself as a human being as well for his mother, brother, sister and family at home. Whether he succeeds in the intended way is another story. (Brief incomplete summary)

    • Very nice, Lázaro, very thorough. You are in the right track. I’d love to see what this turns into.

La idea esta excellente me gusta mucho where you want to take it. But let it be known que crack is more addicting than crystal meth. Or at least if not they are both the same. So i think he sould just be on pot and X when he goes to parties and raves. Then that would turn into a “gateway drug” to other drugs liek crystal meth

  6. Las Vegas, Nevada, United States of America. He is an administrative assistant for the CEO of an investing firm in downtown Vegas. Home and work are his daily commutes, and the occasional grocery shopping when needed. He is a single, 35 year old man living in a studio apartment in one of the most exciting cities in the world. But he is missing confidence to stand up and demand respect, and his long due promotion at the firm.

Lonely, close minded, and a zero-tolerance for risk is what bests describes him. It seems he might just live his entire life without having fun and actually doing something out of the ordinary.
Standing up to his cruel and corrupt boss is one of his greatest fears, yet it always lingers in his mind. If he loses this job, it would be devastating for him and his old decaying mother that receives money from him in Dominican Republic every month. A financial problem would be the only thing that could trigger the free spirit inside him and do what is necessary to provide for him and his mother.

  7. Tito is a stray dog, ugly as hell. Since the day he was born he has managed to survive in the streets of Samana, in the Dominican Republic, where hundreds of dogs try to escape from the many threats they have. Tito tries to get away from the kids that throw him rocks and kick him. He sees with sadness how breed dogs have a place to sleep and a family that feeds them and love them.

Tito gets some food from an old fisherman that feels compassion for the poor dog. This old noble man feeds him with raw fish and bones. He has to fight with others dog for the food. Usually he spends 3 and 4 days with his stomach completely empty. The competition is very rough and the number of dogs in the street increases every day.

The city council just started to recollecting the dogs around the city and putting them to sleep, would Tito survive and manage to improve his conditions?

He is also the soccer coach the soccer team. He was almost to be signed by the top teams in the English Premier League; however, he had a horrible knee injury that shut that door for him. He has, since then, been living a normal monotonous life over shadowed by the dreams that just at the tip of his fingers. He knows that he wants to give it one last shot, however, he still thinks that he’s already too old, and that he doesn’t have what it takes to get to that level. The same question keeps on popping up into his head: why would any scout recruit a 24-year-old high school teacher with a knee injury?

  9. Chad Micheals is a 16-year-old home school teen from Portland,Oregon. He is currently homeschooling because the seven days of the week he is training in his motocross track and exercising. He is training very hard in order to become AMA professional rider and be sponsored by a professional team.
Sunday he will be racing a very important race, which will mean a lot for his future professional career. He is currently practicing very hard for the race, but there are two other riders which are two seconds faster than Chad. Chad’s father is very hard on him, extremely tough, that in some cases Chad even cries when his father is yelling the hell out of him. This methodology of Chad’s father has work all through Chad life and is what has made him a well-educated racer with a lot of passion.
On Friday, Chad and his father were in the track, practicing very hard and fortunately Chad is becoming faster, but the other two riders are also becoming faster. Saturday is the last practice day before the race. Chad’s father is very angry because Chad is constantly making mistakes on a jump, in which the other two riders are doing it perfect.
    What will happen on Sunday?

Did he really need to give up his life dreams for a fraternity? He quickly applied for reentry but got a hasty “fuck you” thrown right back in his face. Can you imagine? Getting dishonorably discharged by the organization you struggled through hell to be a part of? While still trying to be one of those fraternity wanna-be idiots at college who basically pays for friends that are treating him like an annoying little step brother before peer-pressuring him into a bunch of horrible decisions. Decisions that got his ass kicked from the corps. He never thought that after applying for reentry he would get a letter that basically said “alter 14 weeks of boot camp, a 56 hour crucible, and a few months of Basic training we are happy to inform you that we aren’t going to pay you shit. So stick your finger up your ass. Love, The Marine Corps” So needless to say Justin was all fucked up from The Marines. Will he manage to pursue his dream while still getting accepted at the fraternity? Will he be able to fill the shoes of his father, an honorable lieutenant general of the commissioned officers?

What he desires internally is to change the world – to save both kids and parents from suffering slow and painful deaths. What makes him leave his comfort zone and finally face his fate is a terrifying event he goes through when accidentally killing a little girl. He now has to face a vast variety of enemies who weren’t there when he was on the opposite side of the conflict; and none of them understand his pain and desire to change the emptiness of the world we live in.

    1. Where is he? What is his ordinary world, his comfort zone?

John Green is the complete definition of a normal average American. He is average looking, makes a modest amount of money and is married with 2 children at home. He lives in a normal neighborhood where nothing regularly happens at all. Everything in his life is nothing more than a boring life.

    2. What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?

John Green has always had this suppressed feeling inside of him that he has never let roam free. He has never known what this feeling actually is since it has always been buried deep within him. But John has always felt like something is missing in his life some sort of excitement to stir up his lousy boring life.

    3. How willing or unwilling is he or she to do something about it?

John is very unwilling to do something about it since is scared of what it would do with his life or how it will change. He has always felt that it is better to just suppress it and hide it deep within.

    4. What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need?

John’s life changes when one day on his way home he falls asleep in the subway and ends up at a bad location. He goes out of the subway to catch a taxi. Once he is on the streets he hears shots going off and a scream from a child. He goes to see where the sound comes from and finds a child bleeding from a gunshot in the stomach. The kid asks John for help and tells him to call an ambulance and take him to the Hospital. This is the defining moment in Johns life.

    5. Does he or she have friends? Who are they?

John has no real friends apart from his wife Wendy with whom he always has quiet tv dinners and loves’ to play at making crosswords or completing puzzle pieces. The closest thing he has to a friend apart from his wife is his big brother Andy who is a detective in the police force. Andy regularly comes over his house to visit his brother or get together at lunch time to talk. Andy is the only person John can really talk to and whom he feels comfortable with apart from his wife.

At work John has a somewhat type of forced friendship with Carlos and William. Who are two co-workers that like talking to John but whom John many times finds annoying because of the subjects they talk about. Even more so because Carlos always makes fun of John and likes to play practical jokes on him. William is more reserved and many times comes to John aids when the jokes get out of hand.

    6. What about enemies?

He has no enemies at all. John is a decent guy who just there basically, very close to being completely non existant. The closes thing he has to an enemy is Carlos a “forced friend” who plays practical jokes on him and makes fun of him. Also the only person he feels any animosity towards is his boss Erika. Erika is always bothering him about being a nobody and pressuring him about his work. This is the one person in his life apart from Carlos whom he feels complete hatred for every time she speaks.

    7. What is his or her age?

    He is 35 years old.

    8. What’s his or her gender?

    Male

    2. What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?
He lacks action; his life goes around in a routine which only includes his surgery room and his home.

    3. How willing or unwilling is he or she to do something about it?
He is willing to do anything that would involve some action and some adventure; he just does not realize it. He likes his life, but in his subconscious he knows something is missing, and ultimately it all becomes boring.

    4. What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need?
The upcoming crisis in his life is that a morning, that he is even not supposed to be in the hospital, he is pulled to do some trauma operation. No other resident was available, he was the only one. But he wasn’t sure if he could do it, he was drinking wine the night before with his wife till late hours and was sleepy plus hangover. But people were pressuring him that he was the only one and the patient needed surgery right away. He scrubbed in. When he finished, he closed the patient and headed back home. A week later, the hospital called him to a meeting with the board. The patient he had operated had died and in the autopsy they found gauze which had absorbed the blood, causing the patient to die. This malpractice led to the patient’s family suing the hospital and him, causing him to lose his job. Months later, he somehow meets with some criminals who offer a job as an organ remover for the black organ market. Jobless, he does not know what to do.

    5. Does he or she have friends? Who are they?
He has friends who get together in the fold course. They are successful men, very judgmental.

    6. What about enemies?
    He has no enemies.

What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need? His girlfriend’s family received a letter where they were ordered to leave the island forever with a deadline of 20 days.

He lives a parallel life, he has two different and totally opposite personalities, in real life he is basically shy and ugly online he is viewed as a joyful soul, very social and “funny”. He is able to achieve all he has ever proposed to…but online.

The ease of achieving things in his virtual online world is due to his ability in games and in computer related stuff. He has no enemies in the real world, but he is envied online. He has pretty much everything straight forward in his Virtual world, but there’s a little detail that will connect his two worlds.

He lives in the City of New York in the fifth avenue. He dedicates his time and effort in a hospital at New York testing different types of drugs and vaccination. He has no social life and a poor personality, he find what he does more interesting and fun so he maintain himself most of the time isolated with no friends, he is usually arrogant and mad.
One day Garcia discovers something particular that shock him a lot in one of his experiments. Tony thinks he knew the experiments and formula in order to prevent and cure Aids as well as curing Cancer.
One of the most unknown and most needed cure now days. He knew that if he try to create them, and put a patent on them he could earn a lot more money and he could be seeing as a heroe in the field that he likes which is scientist. But there was a problem in his budget; he had to put 100 million dollars in order to only create the formula. So it wasn’t a hundred percent sure that if it will function, one of the most complex and hard decision in his life, whether risking his economical position for this new experiment that could make him richer and more famous.
He decided to put all the money he had on it, so he move from the fifth avenue to the Bronx neighborhood for a moment. Finally after the formula was done it result that it was right it was the formula to cure cancer and aids. He was so proud and happy about himself, one Dominican neighbor from the Bronx neighborhood saw him with this small jar that contained the magic formula, in that same moment the nerd was screaming (like a nerd) Yesssss finally I have discover the formula to cure aids and cancer muahahaha!!!! , by the moment a Dominican saw him and saw the opportunity to get money with that experiment. So the Dominican was overly watching the house of the nerd overnight constantly saying to himself “Yo tengo que manga esa baina”, that night the Dominican went over him and stole from him the formula when he went to bed.

  28. Time has passed unceremoniously as of late. For a moment, I thought time had deceived me. I was convinced that mere seconds could change the longer intervals of time that would follow. That’s just how I felt. The minutes were longer, the hours more painful. Days seemed like anxious weeks which seemed like the months I once wished would pass quickly and suddenly yearned to never pass at all. Strange how quickly time can change things, But I can’t blame it on time. Time is steady and consistent. The changes over time are what give time its illusion of being deceptive. And in recognizing that, I’m ready to trust time again.

Andrew owns a bar in Dominican Republic; this place serves as his baby, his comfort zone. This is where all his dreams and expectations are set on, but at the same time where his social and love life has slowly become intricate and meaningless. His only true friend is his little brother, who, has always been there no matter what, but now he is in love, almost married and making a life of his own. Andrew is more alone than ever, so he drinks. He drinks to forget his little brother is moving on, he drinks to smooth the pressure he feels in his chest every time he thinks on that girl who someday gave him direction and suddenly took it from him marrying someone else, he drinks to embrace this made up life he has created in his head of his life in terrenas as a rich event planner and servants who would meet every single one of his needs. It started as a social drink, then a relaxant, it ended up as a habit. The icy half-full glass of Oldpar scotch was his taste of glory, his companion, his short pause in time, slowly turning into his everything. He would no longer discern who he was and who he has become, no awareness of time or date. He would drink day and night, night and day; he didn’t even distinguish the variation anymore. Andrew is consumed by his energizing and fast pace work, he doesn’t acknowledge how deep the hole he caved in has gotten. Lacking of self control, direction, reality; living to accomplish something that he believes will make him happy ignoring what he has on front. To believe in a world far from reality, embracing a dream and treat life as if forgotten; “Forever young” he whispers as he takes a sip from his cup… “Forever young”. Placed on these circumstances of life, in need of comfort and satisfaction, released upon drinks and poor judgement would anyone feel safe? Is it ever too late? A fact well known by Andrew, time, with desires of wanting to stop the clock from ticking making of every tick an inch closer to his doom. What will become of him? Only Time, will tell

She works at a pizza joint, taking orders and collecting money. Not always she can find the time to inquire in everything she’s interested in, between the pizza place and school. Her decision was to pursue a career in Accounting, because she figured only great journalists with good relationships can make enough money to live decently. Numbers bore her, but she’s good at them. She’s missing the push for adventure she needs to make a move in the field. Only her memories from the past make her wonder what would happen if she took a shot. Her parents were both reporters, but were seldom able to support their two daughters with regular meals on their tables. Although, she had loved seeing their bright faces whenever they got good stories published. She felt for them. Giulia was too hesitant about taking the leap, because her parents had attacked many public figures in their articles, and had gained a number of enemies. Caslini, her last name, would be recognized on the spot if she was able to get published.

Her job didn’t pay enough, but at least she could afford school and food. Giulia would rather stay in her comfort zone, but she fantasizes frequently about acquiring a pseudonym: Giulia Spirito. Being rather lonely, she hung out with some friends from school, but had nothing in common with them.

Giulia’s future depends on letting go of her past fears, and daring to take a step forward.

This means he has to wake up very early, keeping him from getting a full night’s sleep. Malik is a peace loving individual, an artist, not a soldier. In his spare time, he paints and writes; he wants to be a writer or journalist after he is done with college (and fixing his country). He reads often, both fiction and nonfiction, and is very up-to-date on the news. He wants to return to Jameelistan after college in order to make it a better place.Malik isn’t satisfied with his world; now that he moved to America, he wants to use his knowledge to improve Jameelistan. He believes that peace isn’t free; you have to earn it. He has gone off to a US college in order to learn about politics and study with free thinkers. With the USAPATRIOTACT, NDAA (indefinite detainment) and SOPA (internet censorship), he must find a way to circumvent these laws and get his message across. Malik works with other free thinkers in blogging, as well as his blog audience and his friends from Jameelistan. They tell him about his situation at home, whats awaiting for him when he arrives.
What about enemies? The Establishment fears messages of non-interventionism, and has devoted itself to defaming people who think otherwise. This is especially dangerous for Malik; for his whole carrier depends on it.

The wasteland is known for its ruthlessness towards all life in general, this is due to the harsh conditions. A regular person is not most likely to die from the heat, and if the heat does not kill them then the radiation from the nuclear war or the beasts that were born from it will certainly do. Yet people live in the wasteland, there are small settlements of survivors of the nuclear war that have stood the test of time. People stay in those settlements because travelling the wasteland is the most dangerous thing to do, so they take shelter in their buildings, remnants of a civilization long gone. The current society only has one single rule, survival of the fittest. Those that decide to hunt mutated animals for their radiation filled meat will be the ones that survive through the day.
Lautrec Phoenix is a man in his late 30s that lives on the settlement known as Marriot, an abandoned building many stories high protected by guardians, Lautrec is one of such guardians that prevents intrusion from bandits and beasts. Marriott is a single building many stories high, but only about half are being occupied because of the lack of electricity to power the elevators and also because the settlements supplies are limited.
Lautrec had a Wife and child but lost them due to circumstances. Now he lives to protect the Marriot Settlement. During an expedition to the wasteland he encounters a remnant of his lost wife and decides to go look for her. He leaves the Marriot settlement and looks around in the wasteland for clues about his wife and child. He encounters a slave worker and frees her, she becomes his friend. The slave masters are hunting her and him as well all over the wasteland.

Where is he? What is his ordinary world, his comfort zone?
    – Donnie was a normal 20 year old, who lived in a family house in the suburbs with both his parents and a couple of dogs. He was like any other normal kid, taking vitamin pills everyday because his mom ordered him to, with good school attendance, looking for a girlfriend and trying to live the life that society wanted him to live. Donnie wasn’t much of a party guy and he likes to spend the weekends with his family and sometimes have his friends come over. He had a life he couldn’t complain about.

What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?
    – Donnie was lacking confidence in himself to talk to other people. even though he was an intelligent guy, he couldn’t find the courage to talk to others. He needed the courage to try new things but he couldn’t seem to find it. He was not satisfied because he felt that the lack of bravery was causing him to fall back and not give his full potential.

How willing or unwilling is he or she to do something about it?
    – When it came to will, he had it, but was afraid of getting out of his comfort zone wouldn’t be what he was specting, but he knew that one day he would be able to get out of it and do whatever he pleased.

What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need?
    – Every Saturday at 5 p.m, Donnie’s parents left the house for a couple hours saying: “Don’t have friends in the house and remember to take your vitamins”. But every Saturday he wanted to makes things different and didn’t obey his parents. His friends, Alan and Steve, went to his house every Saturday while Donnie’s parents weren’t there to play video games and talk about girls. On this particular Saturday, neither Alan nor Steve wanted to play video games. They told Donnie they met a girl who was willing to take them to parties and adventures in the city. At first Donnie wasn’t sure of what to say, but suddenly he remembered his eagerness to live his comfort zone and decide to hang out with his friends and the new girl the next weekend while his parents were gone. What he didn’t know was that he had made a life changing decision.

Does he or she have friends? Who are they?
    – Donnie is not a very talkative guy and he only has two friends, Alan and Steve. Since they are in different schools, Donnie can only see them every Saturday when his parents are gone. Alan and Steve always support Donnie in every decision he makes. While Steve is the funny guy, Alan could be considered as the “casanova” of the group. Now Donnie is about to make a new friend which will take him to places he has never been before.

    What about enemies?
    – Since Donnie could be consider a geek, he has a couple of bullies after him that always make fun of him and the piss Donnie off, while he only thinks but is unable to do anything.

What is his or her age?
    – He is 20 years old.

    – Male

This hero’s name is Jason Conlan. The story of this hero will placed in the year 2057, somewhere in the United States. In this period of time societies throughout the world have long debated the use of mechanical limbs and other body parts in human operations and implants. There are already many human beings with these sorts of body augmentations, as is the case of Jason who had suffered an accident a couple of years back and had been given no choice as to have the implants made or not because his life ultimately depended on them. This technology allows Jason to have superhuman abilities. Jason used to be a SWAT team commander, but his career came to an end when he refused to follow some questionable orders given to him from his superiors. Jason Conlan had long decided, in earlier years of his life, that he really enjoys and would be more than pleased to dedicate his life to enforcing the law for the protection and well-being of others. Because of this, after no longer being part of the SWAT agency, Jason is easily hired by an established and recognized organization which has dedicated itself to fight and eliminate international terrorism. Jason’s ordinary world involves doing research and investigations on suspected terrorist individuals or groups, and stealthy missions usually planned around the extraction of valuable information. Jason is increasingly burdened by the question of whether he is doing or has done the right thing. He seeks facts and information that is not subject to debate – Jason seeks truth. There had been many accusations against the anti-terrorist organization Jason was now working for relating to corruption and the interior motives of those sitting at the top of the social ladder. Jason is willing to set time for some investigations he would make at the cost of his own free time but has no idea where and when these investigations would start. He also stresses the idea of doing things on his own and making his biggest efforts to get anyone else involved in this personal assignment he has given himself. The hero is finally confronted by the crisis of a virus that has spread and started to create an impact on a global scale. The cure to the virus is in very short supply and, in a somewhat odd case, some of this supply is stolen by a group of terrorists to which Jason is assigned to for its recovery. Jason accepts his mission and manages to obtain some striking information from one of the terrorists. Picking out the good guys from the bad guys becomes something subject perception and the amount of information on-hand. Jason is an intelligent and perceptive man known for his cold and solid personality. He is more of a loner than an empathic and passionate man. Jason tries to be as self-sufficient as he can. Most of his friends are made up of the people Jason has worked with throughout his career. Jason Conlan is a 32 year old male.

Kai, a 5 feet 10  inches guy, skinny yet apparently fit, lives in a small island by the name of Okinawa, off of the coast of Japan, the worlds capital. It’s the year 2096 and swords are back and can be carried around legally by anybody older than 15, but they need to be in their sheaths, since guns were taken off of the market after WWIII, in which guns took the lives of millions of people. Planet earth has become one big country by the name of Greater Japan and every prefecture lives in harmony. He lives with his grandfather, who used to be a dedicated Military Doctor or MD, since the death of his parents. He loves playing video games and staying in home from school to build small homemade robots.

What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?
Kai lacks the desire to defend himself from a high school bully who’s been bulling him around from middle school, and the confidence to talk to the girl he’s always admired and had a crush on. Kai believes that by defending himself and fighting back would just lead to more problems with the bully and will ultimately end up very bad, since he had never even learned how to fight, but he wants the bulling to stop. Kai’s desire for his own protection should increase and his confidence should rise as well. He is constantly bullied and the girl of his dreams is going out with the bullies best friend or second in command, so in order to avoid any trouble, thats when he skips school and practices his robot construction.

How willing or unwilling is he or she to do something about it?
He is very unwilling to stand up for himself since he believes that by standing up for himself, bigger problems will pursue.

What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need?
When Michael leaves Aiko for another girl, he physically threatens Aiko and literally beats her, when Kai learns about this he steps up to the plate and confronts Michael.

Does he or she have friends? Who are they?
His best friend used to be Aiko, the girl he’s always loved, but they grew apart. She fell in love with a guy named Michael who happened to be from, what used to be, California. He has another friend who also likes to build robots and paint who’s called  John. Mina is John’s little sister as well as Kai’s next best friend.

    What about enemies?
He has one main enemy by the name of Riku, the bully. Riku is fluent at sword play, which is the name of the best martial art of the time. Sword play incorporates the use of the sword, knives, or any sharp weapon as an extension of ones self. Riku is the leader of Okinawa’s most notorious gang, the Sheathless, which by the name indicate that they carry swords without their sheaths.  Michael is Riku’s second in command. From California, and extremely rich.

He is a 25 year old charismatic young man, with a successful career on marine biology. But his life is not perfect, his adoptive parents died 8 years ago in a plane accident, and the only companion he has is his nanny Mary. His parents did leave him a significant amount of money which he has used only for his studies, and the development of an aquarium for his community. His life is a daily routine, he gets up, goes for a jog, gets ready for work, gets to work, has lunch at the same restaurant everyday, goes back to work, gets home, has dinner, and back to bed.

What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?

He lacks excitement, adventure, that drive that keeps you motivated and moving forward. Even though he is loved by his neighbors and the people around him, he still feels empty. He needs someone to provide him support, strength, and care. He needs challenges, to learn how to live, to live with no fear and enjoy life.

How willing or unwilling is he or she to do something about it?

He is scared to go out there and face the world. His inner issues with the lost of his biologic and adoptive parents made him fear life, he does not like to take risks, he calculates his every move, and is reluctant to any change in his daily life.

What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need?

A crisis that deeply touches his soul, his morals and values. Maybe a career issue, the desperate call of help of a family member or neighbor, and/ or a mission to rescue animals in danger.

Does he or she have friends? Who are they?

He doesn’t have any friends, the only person he has is his 75 year old nanny Mary Margaret.

  44. Let’s crank it up and think of a hero. A main character for a short-story that will eventually become a screenplay emerges naturally once you answer the following questions:
    1. Where is he? What is his ordinary world, his comfort zone?
He is in a psychiatric hospital, rehabilitating. His comfort zone is in his room. His ordinary world is throughout the hospital as he is not allowed to leave due to his health.
    2. What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?
He lacks the courage to fix his life. He needs to break free of the hold that the drugs and the hospital have on him, he needs to remember his past. His repressed memories continue to bubble up to the surface, and he is not satisfied just sitting around the hospital, unable to remember his past. Where is he? What is his ordinary world, his comfort zone?
In a small town of the Netherlands called Schagen. His ordinary world is his traditional lifestyle as a respected doctor working on his second specialty degree in general surgery. He is currently dealing with a double life that handles suppressed anger and violent tendencies on his behalf. These are closely related with the murder of his parents while at a very young age.

What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?
He needs revenge to fulfill his drought of human sacrifice until he feels it equals or overlaps the pain he has managed to live with for such a long time.

How willing or unwilling is he or she to do something about it?
He is consciously unwilling to seek for revenge, but as his personality changes through time, his willingness increases.

What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need?
He would need to encounter a situation that reenacts the suffering he went through as he visualized his parents being tortured to death.

Does he or she have friends? Who are they?
The doctor is a very secluded person. He enjoyed free time for himself and a good book or two. As mentioned, he is very well-known doctor with a reputation that he has to live up to. As a result, he is too busy with his double lifestyle confrontation to be dealing with relationships.

    What about enemies?
His enemy is basically the world he lives in, which he essentially despises.

What is his or her age?
He is around 27 years old.

    What’s his or her gender?

  47. Let’s crank it up and think of a hero. A main character for a short-story that will eventually become a screenplay emerges naturally once you answer the following questions:
    1. Where is he? What is his ordinary world, his comfort zone?
He lives a small town, very peaceful, and comforting, he goes to high school where he knows just one or two people because they have grown up together, he doesn’t care about anyone else, and that is how he feels comfortable. He is tall, and handsome he has learned throughout his live to do everything alone, he lacks a father, never met him and doesn’t care if he ever does. He lives routine day after day, sometimes skipping lunch, but he actually feels like there is something more, something different about him and his surroundings, something that he cannot see.
    2. What does he lack? What does he need? How is the ordinary world NOT satisfying him in that aspect of himself?
He lacks social skills, even more he thinks that’s not having them it’s more of a gift rather than something he is lacking on. So we could say he is too arrogant to feel like anyone else too superior. He needs to learn that he is not the best out there in everything there is and that he has a lot he needs to learn from other people in order to accomplish all of his upcoming goals.
    3. How willing or unwilling is he or she to do something about it?
He is indifferent, he doesn’t care about what will make him better cause in the end that’s a stepping stone that will get him to his own personal goal.
    4. What crisis would he need to be confronted with in order to make him or her move and satisfy that need?
He will need to fight his way out the problem. An issue he didn’t even create something he was never ready for and he thought had hit him by chance. He will need to confront his threshold guardians and learn the ways of this new people he meets in order to get that something different that he was always searching for.
    5. Does he or she have friends? Who are they?
He has no friends, he knows only two people Jessica and Sado, who he knows because they have grown up together, he is not interested. But he does feel different about them is not something that you could call friendship but something in between there and an acquaintance.
    6. What about enemies?
He will learn that he has more than he ever thought, they are strong and they want something he never thought that existed.

    7. What is his or her age?
He is 17 and is in his third year of high school, doesn’t know what he wants for the future, but then again he has even thought about it yet.
    8. What’s his or her gender?
    It’s a male character.

The hero of the story lives in rural Japan. In a temple where he grew up in, they claim to be exorcists. The hero named Gokai is completely skeptical and oblivious to the reality. Gokai has a brother named Kiyoshi, and when put side by side act nothing alike. Gokai is a trouble maker (or trouble finds him) not being able to completely do anything right. Feeling different and not being able to make friends, but does try his best to protect that which he cares about, but with rage. Kiyoshi is gentler and is constantly motivating his brother. His aspiration is to become the best (in what?? You shall see later on), and is adored by everyone. Shortly after turning 15 years old he is forcefully pushed into the special world by certain events. There are two worlds, that of the human world and demon world, which are linked by special gates which are not meant to be crossed over, but constantly demons cross over and are not seen by humans. Turns out that many years ago there was a massacre of high up exorcists around the world, all by the demon lord…Satan; which forced the humans in return to make a society called the Order (training exorcists around the world). Satan needing a medium so that the human side can successfully withhold his presence had two children with a mid level exorcist so that they shall be perfect hosts for him. Fortunately only one of the brothers obtain the flames of Satan. At the age of 15 in the demon world they are viewed as adults in which they obtain the full demonic powers. Now being able to see demons in the human world, Gokai is full of fear and not being able to grasp this new world being thrust upon him. However he does not yet know he is the son of Satan, (which everyone else in the temple knew, including his “father”). Gokai was hidden from the world as he was human, but now being more demonic, Satan got wind of his son and paid him a visit obtaining the strongest medium possible (the fake father, whom is actually the highest appointed exorcist in the world). This is when Satan proclaims himself as being the father of Gokai, and tries to take his son back to the demon world. The only friends that Gokai has are only his brother and stepfather and other clergymen of the temple. His enemies are the demons whom are trying to either kill him or take him back to Satan, and Satan himself. The death of his stepfather and hatred towards Satan (and what he has become) push him towards a world where he can kill Satan.

Frankie Dreik was a 40 year old dominican business man who had become incredible rich after founding one of the most lucrative insurance company. He had grew up in a broken home where his day to day experiences taught him the laws of life. Without enough friends or some may say not at all his only relationships came from empty and superficial hookups with the most beautiful women he managed to meet. Thanks for his way of living and all his experiences in his crazy youth he had become really persuasive and extremely good with the ladies.

But after his world becomes to fall apart due to bad working decisions, parties and so on, his hits bottom and fucks his life in several ways. Now he needs to find a way back to normal life, but maybe for that to work he would need to look deeply at himself, and look back at his life.
