The hero in this movie is Bryan, his ordinary world is somewhat special if we compare it to the simple lives we lead, but for him it isn’t. He is a retired special agent for the US government who moved to another city in order to be close to his seventeen year old daughter. He does freelance work as a security guard and is focused on his main goal: building a relationship with his daughter. The crisis that unbalances this world is when he is asked to sign a permit in order for his daughter to travel to France with a friend; he hesitates yet ends up pressured into agreeing under certain terms. His daughter and friend get kidnapped the same day they arrived in France, this is what triggers him to act. Then, the special world is his adventure when he arrives to France – finding evidence, tracking the bad guys down, etc. His main ally is his friend back in the US that gives him all the background information of his daughter’s kidnapers. In France he meets an old friend, who seems to be an ally as well, but later on he acts in favor of the French government and therefore becomes another person Bryan must deceive. The antagonists are all those involved in the kidnapping of his daughter – directly and indirectly. This includes the authors of the kidnapping, the prostitution business managers, and the buyers and intermediaries, as well as the bodyguards of the event itself and of the final buyer. In some sense, his ex-wife and her current husband aren’t very fond of him either, therefore they act as allies yet the catalyst of this would be the kidnapping of Kim. The call to adventure is clearly the interruption during the phone call he was having with his daughter, when she notices what is happening in the other side of the apartment. As for the plot points, I would say the plot is divided into 3 in the following manner: the first one being the ordinary world and the call to adventure (the kidnap and the moments that follow it); the second one would be his arrival in Paris and how he starts finding clues bit by bit, including the translator, his old friend, the girl with his daughter’s jacket, and the Albanians; the final part would be when he learns the exact location of his daughter and uses Jean Claude’s access to information in his favor, and everything that I unleashed by this, until the end. The hero seems pretty confident of what his steps to follow are; however, these are made concrete when he localizes the Albanian that wished him good luck finding his daughter. Here, he learns concrete information about his daughter’s final location. Bryan accomplishes his mission by rescuing his daughter and bringing her safely back home. The hero’s transformation is one of heavy emotional weight. He is able to demonstrate to his daughter how willing he is to make up for all the lost time during the past. He fights to recover her and later on we see a glimpse of him taking her to singing classes. This shows that their relation is going in the correct direction and that he has regained her trust.

  3. 1. Hero
Bryan Mills is a retired CIA agent whose main focus in life after becoming a retiree becomes his seventeen year-old daughter, Kim, and making up for all the lost time due to his former job.
    2. Ordinary World
His ordinary world is retired life and trying to build a closer relationship with his daughter. He has a love/hate relationship with his ex-wife, Lenore. His main purpose is to always keep his daughter safe. He pays a lot attention to detail.
    3. What is the crisis that unbalances his world?
The crisis that unbalances his world is when the Albanian Mafia, a group that specializes on human trafficking, kidnaps his daughter to be sold as a sex slave.
    4. What is the special world?
The special world is Paris where he has to fight enemies and pass tests in order to accomplish his mission of saving his daughter.
    5. Who are his allies and antagonists?
His allies are Sam, the friend that helps him decipher who had taken his daughter and Jean-Claude Olivier who started out being a friend but turned out to be more of an antagonist by putting money before the safety of his friend’s daughter. Other antagonists include the Albanian mafia, Saint-Clair, the man who buys Kim and his guards.
    6. Who or what delivers his call to adventure?
His call to adventure is delivered by a cellphone the moment that he is on the it with Kim while she is being abducted and in the end the abductor picks up the phone and Mills threatens him with finding him and killing him if he doesn’t leave his daughter alone to which the abductor responds “Good luck”.
    7. Define the three acts according to the two main plot points.
First Act: Bryan Mills is a retired CIA agent who is trying to improve his relationship with his daughter. Mills is happy as a retiree because it allows him more time to work on it.
Plot point 1: His daughter wants to travel Paris with her best friend, Amanda. Everything is fine until they meet Peter at the airport, a handsome young man who offers to share a cab with them. He learns where they are staying and that they’re staying alone. Later that day, Kim and Amanda are abducted while Kim is on the cell phone with Mills the entire time.
2nd Act: Bryan Mills starts his mission to find Kim in Paris with the little information he has. Mills has to pass all sorts of challenges in order to gather the clues needed to find Kim. The stakes are continuously raised and external problems begin to seem solvable but then become more complicated. After breaking into the apartment and finding the photo of Peter, Mills goes after him but Peter dies. Mills contacts his old friend Jean-Claude for help and he gives him leads where to start looking. Mills then ends up in a brothel where he finds Kim’s jacket but it is another girl who has it. This girl tells him where to find the Arabian mafia and he goes and kills all the gangsters except Marko, the one that wished him good luck. Kim is not there so he tortures Marko for information, Marko tells him about Saint-Clair.

2nd Plot Point: It turns out that his dear corrupt friend Jean-Claude had been anything but helpful to him. Bryan shoots Jean-Claude’s wife and threatens to kill her unless Jean-Claude tells him who is Saint-Clair and where to find him.
3rd Act: Mills goes to Saint-Clair’s and finds the auction where his daughter is to be sold and forces a bidder to buy her but he is caught. Saint-Clair orders his guards to kill him but he is able to break free and kill all of Saint-Clair’s guards. He then finds Saint-Clair and forces him to tell him where to find Kim. Mills find the yacht that Kim is in, he boards it and kills all the guards and the yacht owner and finally save Kim. They go back home and Kim sees her mom again.

    8. When does the hero know what to do to win?
He knows what to do in the 2nd plot point.
    9. Does he?
    He does win.
    10. Describe the hero’s transformation (called the character arc).
I don’t think this movie has a character arc. I believe the character has no inner conflict or transformation. He is a catalytic hero.

    • Perfect.

  4. 1. Hero

The hero of this movie is a retired CIA agent named Bryan Mills who saves his daughter Kim from kidnappers in France that specialize in trafficking young woman for sex slaves.

    2. Ordinary World

Bryan’s ordinary world is based on recuperating the time lost with his daughter when he used to work for the US government. His demanding job back then even caused him to get divorced and at the beginning of the movie we can see the rejection his ex-wife stills feels for him.

    3. What is the crisis that unbalances his world?
The crisis that unbalances his world is when his doughter is kidnapped in France by some Albanian Mafia that specializes in trafficking young woman as sex slaves.

    4. What is the special world?

The special world is Paris, where he has to find his daughter in less than 96 hours before never being found.

    5. Who are his allies and antagonists?
Allies: Sam, who is the person that informs Bryan and Lenore that if Kim is not rescued within 96 hours, she will likely never be found. He also tells them the kind of jobs that this type of mafia does.
Also, the girl that Bryan found in the construction site with Kim’s jacket; she tells him the last place she saw his daughter.

Antogonists: Jean-Claude, an agent from the French intelligence who at first demonstrated his friendship to Bryan but then betrayed him. Also, Marko, Patrice Saint-Clair and all the other guards.

    6. Who or what delivers his call to adventure?

The call to adventure is given by one of the kidnappers named Marko who after listening to Bryan’s threats in the cell phone at the moment of Kim’s abduction responds with “Good Luck”.

    7. Define the three acts according to the two main plot points.

First Act: Bryan Mills no longer works for the CIA and now as a retiree tries to recuperate the time lost with his daughter Kim. He also spends more time with his friends in social activities.
Plot point 1: Kim wants to go to Paris with her best friend, Amanda. Bryan wasn’t to convinced at first with the whole idea, but his ex-wife Lenore puts pressure on him until he accepts her trip.
When Kim and Amanda get to Paris, they meet a guy named Peter who suggests to share a cab because they were very expensive. Peter then finds out that both girls were staying alone in the apartment. Afterwards, the kidnappers enter the apartment and abduct Amanda at first while Kim is talking on the phone with Bryan watching everything that is happening. Then, the kidnappers find Kim and take her as well.

2nd Act: While Kim was being abducted she described some characteristics of the kidnappers to Mills and with that information he starts searching for her. Bryan goes to the apartment both girls were staying in and finds the cell phone by which Kim was talking to him. Mills discovers a picture that was taken at the airport where he distinguishes Peter.
Bryan Mills flies to Paris and finds Peter in the airport but he escapes and is run over by a truck. So Mills turns into his old friend Jean- Claude who gives him a trail that ends up in a brothel at a construction site where he finds a girl that had Kim’s jacket and tells him the last place she saw her.
Mills enters a building where he kills all the guards and finds Marko. He then takes Marko and tortures him until death to get all the information he could give. At the end Marko drives Mills to Saint-Claire.
Plot Point 2: Mills discovers that his friend Jean-Claude was also being corrupt so he shoots Jean-Claude’s wife and threatens to kill her unless he tells him who is Saint-Clair and where to find him.

3rd Act: Mills goes to Saint-Clair’s and finds the auction where his daughter is to be sold and forces a bidder to buy her but he is caught. Saint-Clair then finds out of Mills intentions and orders his guards to kill him but Bryan is able to escape and kill all the guards. He then finds Saint-Clair and forces him to tell him where to find Kim. Mills jumps in the yacht that Kim is in, then he kills all the guards and has one final battle before killing the yacht owner. Mills then gets Kim and they both return back home.

    8. When does the hero know what to do to win?
He know what to do to win after he forces his friend Jean-Claude to tell him who is Saint-Claire and where to find him.

    9. Does he?
    Yes, he wins.

    10. Describe the hero’s transformation (called the character arc).
In my opinion, Mills got what he was first aiming which was to get a closer relationship with his daughter. Kim’s abduction was the trigger that made him realize the real importance of sharing some time with her.

    • Excellent…

    1. Hero: Bryan Mills

    2. Ordinary World: He is a divorced retired CIA agent trying to build a closer relationship with his daughter Kim. His absences made him a distant father and a lonely man. He hangs out with his former colleagues, and enjoys the simplicity of his life.

    3. After being persuaded into letting his 17 year old daughter travel to Paris with a friend he lets her go, and upon arriving in Paris, Kim and Amanda meet Peter, a man related to women trafficking, and Amanda and Kim are abducted.

    4. Bryan goes on the mission of rescuing his daughter in less than 96 hours. During this short period of time he needs to rely on his old skills to pass tests, overcome obstacles, vanquish his enemies, and trick or destroy those who impede his process.

    5. His true ally is Sam, a former colleague, which listens to the recording and identifies the abductors as members of the Albanian Mafia, who specialize in kidnapping young women for sex slaves. Sam informs Bryan and Lenore that if Kim is not rescued within 96 hours, she will likely never be found. An expected to be ally and turned out to be an antagonist is Jean-Claude Olivier, an old friend and former field agent for the French Intelligence, who is now a bureaucrat. Other antagonists are the Albanian mafia, and Saint-Clair.

    6. His call to adventure is delivered via a cell phone call. His daughter Kim calls, and in that precise moment she notices that her friend is being abducted. He explains to her what will happen and later send the abductor the following message: ¨I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you¨, the abductor responds: ¨good luck¨, and the mission begins.

    7. 1st Act: Bryan Mills, a retired CIA agent, is seeking to improve his relationship with his daughter Kim; he is trying to win her love and her mothers´ approval. He is satisfied, his only desire is to be back on his daughters´ life as the father he is.

1st Plot Point: Kim wants to go to Paris with her best friend, Amanda. Even though she lied to him he lets her go due to her mothers´ pressure. All begins when Amanda and Kim meet Peter at the airport. After he finds out they are traveling and staying alone, they are both abducted while Kim is on the cell phone with his dad.

2nd Act: Mills has 96 hours to find his daughter and the clock is ticking. He faces all the challenges, vanquishes his enemies one by one until he reunites the information he needs to find Kim. Things later on become more complicated, they are too many, and he does not have a lot in his favor, he is fighting a war alone, but he risks everything and focuses on the goal.

2nd Plot Point: Mills faces the one ally he thought he had, and things become clearer. Now he knows in what direction he needs to be heading to find Kim.

3rd Act: He gets to an auction, sees his daughter for the first time, now that he knows who has her goes after her. He follows the yacht Kim is in, kills everyone in it, including Saint-Clair, rescues his daughter, and goes back to his ordinary world.

    8. When Jean-Claude Olivier says the truth in the second plot point, and when he finally sees his daughter.

    9. Yes, he wins, he gets her back and they both return home safely and with an special bond.

    10. Bryan Mills was a determined man since the beginning, I don’t think he suffered any kind of transformation, he just returned to be who he used to be, a CIA agent with a mission.

The hero is Bryan Mills, which is a retired government agent focused on recuperated the time he lost with his daughter.

His ordinary world is to reestablish a relationship with Kim, while his ex-wife Lenore excels at making it complicated for him. He has some friends who seem to be previous coworkers and that he often gathers with.

What unbalances his world is when he grants permission to his daughter to go to France and when she gets there, she is kidnapped by the Albanian Mafia to be sold as a sex slave.

His special world is Paris, where he has to follow certain steps and get to specific people to save his daughter and he needs to all this in less than 96 hours.

As allies he has Sam, Jean-Claude (initially), and the girl with the jacket. As antagonists we see the Albanian Mafia, Saint Claire, Marco, several guards, and Jean-Claude.

The call-to-adventure is basically when Bryan Mills speaks with the Mafia at the moment of abduction and explains that he has the skills necessary to find him and kill him, to which the kidnapper responded with and enraging “good luck”.

First act: Bryan Mills is a retired government agent who is working on rebuilding his relationship with his daughter, Kim, after he lost some time due to constant dedication to his job.
Plot point: He grants permission to his daughter to go to Paris with her best-friend Amanda who is a slut and agrees to share a cab and go to a party with Peter, a handsome “tourist” they met at the airport. Peter informs the mob and they later abduct Kim and her friend while Kim was on the phone with her father who directed her through the kidnapping process.
Second act: Bryan Mills gets to Paris and has to go through various troublesome situations to get information of his daughter’s location. Among these, we may mention: discovering and killing Peter, contacting Jean-Claude, using the translator, finding and saving the jacket girl, going to the house with the red door to confront Marco, among several more.
Plot point: Mills confronts his frienemy Jean-Claude who was corrupt and treacherous by shooting his wife with a flesh wound and forcing him to provide information about Saint-Claire who had his daughter in order to find her.
Third act: Mills kills Saint-Claire after witnessing the bid where his daughter was being sold. Before his death, Saint-Claire states that the bidder is in a yacht with his daughter to Mills. Bryan Mills races off to the reach the yacht after its already departed and manages to land on it and kill its guards. He saves his daughter just in time and heads back home with her.

He knows what to do to win after he finds the Albanian mob and localizes Marco who wished him good luck.

    He wins.

He is not transformed drastically but his unconditional love for his daughter is depicted by his actions and he is therefore transformed into a hero, which has gained the respect and trust of the rest of the family.

    • Excellent.

    Taken

    1. Hero
Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson) is retired from the CIA, after 30 years of service, and tries to build a relationship with his estranged daughter.

    2. Ordinary World
Completely different from what it was before in the CIA, now retired he focuses all of his efforts to try and form a relationship with his estranged daughter (Hoping to live up to the expectation). In which he promised to see every year for the past 12 years, the day of her birthday. Apparently, trying to dodge past the obvious financial dilemma compared to the step father.

    3. What is the crisis that unbalances his world?
By signing the permission form for his daughter to travel to Paris; it comes down to the moment the daughter and cousin arrive in the apartment in Paris a group of men ransack the apartment and “take” both of the girls.

    4. What is the special world?
Being pushed back into the life he so willingly gave up, quite violently might I add. The one thing that was keeping him in the ordinary world is now gone. Byran now spends his time in Paris and not just the Eiffel Tower, but the back allies, whore houses, and the ugly side of Paris no one sees.

    5. Who are his allies and antagonists?
His ally in the movie is his CIA buddy Sam, at one point the translator and the drugged chick were considered “helpers in the movie. The shape-shifter is none other than Jean-Claude Olivier whom looked like was helping but in the end tried screw him over. The antagonists are Saint-Clair, the Mafia, Peter, the men who bought his daughter.

    6. Who or what delivers his call to adventure?
His daughter who had called him just to report that she was fine unknowingly made the call to adventure. As soon as she was panicking and told Bryan that the cousin was being taken, Bryan knew all too well that she was to be next.

    7. Define the three acts according to the two main plot points.
First Act: Bryan Mills the retired CIA agent, tries with all his might to be part of his estranged daughter’s life; while taking a few freelancing jobs. (It is a little long winded but it’s to clarify all the points and skill the protagonist has.)

First Plot Turn: Occurs when Mills notices that they will be traveling around Europe to follow a band (being lied to made him even more paranoid and meticulous). As soon as they land the girls were kidnapped and were only able to be rescued because Kim called him back after the miss call, and was able to give details about the kidnappers.

Second Act: Mission starts in Paris, somewhere that is apparently very familiar since he turns to a “friend” by the name of Jean-Claude. The protagonist can be seen getting closer as each passing event such as, identifying Peter, finding out that they are an Albanian gang, the jacket found on the prostitute in the construction site, and Marko (the man who’s voice Bryan has been obsessing about.) who tells him about Saint-Clair.

Second Plot Turn: Jean-Claude is even more corrupt than Bryan had imagined. Needing the info and leverage to obtain the info he knew Jean-Claude has…Bryan shoots his wife (a flesh wound) and threatens he will make the kids live without a mother; obviously obtaining the information.

Third Act: Bryan goes to the auction and forces the “last” boss to bid and win his daughter back. This is where after having everything so close to concluding he gets knocked unconscious and is faced with the problematic situation of being caught. Freeing himself with his dedication and skills, and chasing down the man that has bought his daughter (obtaining the information from Saint-Clair who died shortly after.). There is a long winded boat fight and finally the defeat of all his advisories. Takes his daughter home to the ordinary world which has now shifted or changed to what he originally wanted.

    8. When does the hero know what to do to win?
After going to Jean-Claude and obtaining the information about Saint-Clair all that is left to do is go and confront them to get his daughter back.

    9. Does he?
    Yes he does win

    10. Describe the hero’s transformation (called the character arc).
This stories character arc is not a transformation per say but constant test. The man is put with obstacles throughout the movie to keep him from reaching the goal, but also to try and sway the protagonist into giving up. Going to the construction site and not finding her…going to the house with the red door and finding the dead cousin …and being caught at the auction when he finally had her a few feet away. Not giving up is his character arc.

  17. Pedro Rodriguez said:

First, we need to ask ourselves what a real hero is. A hero is someone who does something heroic quietly, away from public eyes, away from public scrutiny. The one who does something, and then carries on with his life as a regular human being, knowing that he has touched a few lives anyway. so, is the protagonist of the story a real hero? is Bryan what we can named as a hero? maybe if this wasn’t a movie, nobody will know the big things he had done.
but i think he’s a hero for his daughter, because he loves her so much, that all he wants is to protect her. because that’s what parents do, love unconditionally, expecting nothing in return. So, is this is just a parent or a hero? or it could be both? i think it’s both. Somehow, to most of us.. our parents are or daily heroes.
and right there is our “ordinary world,” he had a really important job before as a security force, now he’s just a bodyguard, with nothing really exiting in his life. he has a daughter, and he feels he’s not good enough for her at the beginning, because her ex wife is married to a millionaire, and he gives everything he can’t to his daughter, so he feels kind of left out by her.
the crisis that unbalance his world is his daughter, she went to a trip just her and her friend to Europe, and some guys enter the apartment they’re staying at, and kidnapp both of her, but she realizes in time and hide under the bed and call her father so he can tell her what to do, before they find her. so he goes to europe and find his daughter.
this special world is Paris, where the guys that kidnapp her, sell the body of young beautiful tourist like her. They drug her, and let people rape them. but in this “special world” the girls that are virgin like Bryan’s daughter, kim. are sell by higher price, and only to one seller, like a bet.

His allies are his daughter’s step-father that helped him with the monetary things like transportation to Paris and a friend he think would help, which efficacy does by finding information about the Albanian Gang. His antagonist would be, of course, the albanian gang, especially Jean Claude, Patrice St. Clair.

his called for adventure is the love for his daughter, and the fury he feels when he heard “Good Luck.”

the three acts i think the movie could be summarize are:

1st- Describe the bond between his world and the one Brian daughter has.
2nd- the climax, the kidnapping, and how does work the business they’re dragging the girls into.
3rd- how he gets his daughter back.

he knows he’ll get back his daughter when he saw her dancing being offer by the highest bet. he knows in that instant, that she’s alive, and that he won’t let anybody touch her after that.
yes, he does get her daughter back, after that long journey.

he regrets some decisions he has made in his life, and for don’t trying to stand up for what he really believed was right (not letting her go to the trip), instead he said yes, so his daughter could love him. but at the end, her daughter realizes all the love her dad has for her, and expresses her love for him as well.

  18. Pedro Pimentel 10-0049 said:

    1. Hero: Bryan Mills, a retired goverment special agent with skills and experiences that make him aware of the world around him, and he’s very detail-oriented.

    2. Ordinary world: His ordinary world revolves around his retired life and trying to be close to his daughter to make up for the time lost while he was working as an agent. He has a tough relationship with his ex-wife, which makes it even harder to be with his daughter.

    3. What is the crisis that unbalances his world?
The crisis that unbalances his world is the kidnapping of her daughter by some Albanians in order to be sold for sex or turned into a prostitute while she is on a trip to Paris.

    4. What is the special world?
The special world is Paris where Bryan needs to go through several obstacles and fight Albanians in order to find the whereabouts of his daughter.

    5. Who are his allies and antagonists?
One of his allies is Sam, a friend from long time ago that provides him with information about the kidnappers. Another character is Jean-Claude who plays the role of the shapeshifter, starting first as an ally but turning as an antagonist at the end. The Albanians are main antagonists, followed by Patrice Saint Claire, and the people that bought Bryan’s daughter.

    6. Who or what delivers his call to adventure?
The call to adventure is delivered by Marko, at the time when he enters the apartment and kidnaps Bryan’s daughter. Bryan accepts this call to adventure when he threatens Marko with finding and killing him.

    7. Define the three acts according to the two main plot points
1st act: This act takes place in the ordinary world where Bryan is a retired special agent trying to be close to his daughter to make up for the time lost while he was performing his job. Later on, Kim, the daughter, asks her father for permission to go to Paris with a friend to which Bryan replies no, because he doesn’t think is safe. After giving it some thought, Bryan approves it in order to please her. When they get to Paris, the two girls meet Peter and they share a taxi to the city, but he was only doing it to learn where they were staying. When Bryan calls, Kim sees from the other side of the apartment how her friend is kidnapped and stays in the phone with her father the whole time until she is kidnapped, and Bryan threatens the kidnapper with finding him.

2nd act: The second part of the movie starts when Bryan decides to go to Paris to find his daughter. He goes to the apartment to find clues and later on, finds Peter who was the spotter. After getting nothing from Peter, he goes to ask for help to a friend, Jean Claude, who gives him information he might find useful but cannot do more than that. Then he goes to a place where the Albanians keep girls and use them as prostitutes and Bryan finds the jacket Kim was wearing, taking with him the jacket and the girl that had it. After helping the girl, she tells him where to find the kidnappers. Bryan enters the house where they are and after tearing it apart and killing them all, he interrogates Marko. Due to the torture he was facing, Marko tells Mills that they sold his daughter to Patrice Saint Claire.

3rd act: The third and final act begins when Bryan goes to Jean Claude’s house, who turned to be an enemy instead of a friend. There he asks for information about Saint Claire. When Bryan goes to where Saint Claire is, he finds that his daughter is being sold and immediately forces a guy to buy it so he can take her, but then is stopped by Saint Claire’s guard. After setting himself free and killing all of Saint Claire’s guards, he finds out that Kim is being taken to a boat in the river. Bryan races to where the boat is, catching up with it and struggling with the buyer’s guards. After a long fight, he finally rescues his daughter and they go back home, to be received by Kim’s mom and her step-father.

    8. When does the hero know what to do to win?
The hero knows what to do act the beginning of the third act when he goes to find the information he needs from Jean Claude.

    9. Does he?
    He wins.

    10. Describe the hero’s transformation (called the character arc).
In my opinion, he is a catalytic hero so he doesn’t undergo any kind of transformation. Since the beginning he knew what to do and had the skills and mental strength to do it.

  19. Taken
    1. Hero
The hero of the movie Taken is Bryan Mills, a retired special operations agent that worked for the U.S. Bryan Mills has unrivaled fighting and detective skills but suffers from a crippled personal life. He is a catalytic hero; he stays the same throughout the whole movie.

    2. Ordinary World

He is unhappy inside his ordinary world because his ex-wife Lenore hates him for leaving her alone constantly during their relationship. Lenore lives with her rich husband Stuart which overshadows Bryan in the eyes of Kim in terms of money.

    3. What is the crisis that unbalances his world?
The call-to-action is taken is when Kim wants to go on a road trip to Europe, Bryan gives permission under strict demands, at the time she gets to France she meets Peter who actually kidnaps her and her friend Amanda at their apartment in France. 6. Who or what delivers his call to adventure?
His call to adventure is the phone call Kim makes when she is being kidnapped and really occurs when Marco from Tropoya tells him good luck.

    7. Define the three acts according to the two main plot points.
The first act occurs from the beginning of the movie when he purchases a gift for Kim, acts as a bodyguard for the singer, goes to Kim birthday, he gives permission for her to go on a trip and ends when she calls him. The call is the main plot point in this act and marks the beginning of Act 2 which makes up most of the movie. Many things occur in Act 2; Bryan Mill’s requests the help of his friends to find Kim along with transportation to Paris from Stuart, He travels to Paris memorizing the phone call recording, goes to the apartment and finds evidence on Peter. After finding the kidnappers lookout Peter (1st threshold) and the ensuing confrontation ends up with Peter being run over by a truck. Bryan has no clues to follow and requests the help of his old agent acquaintance Jean-Claude which tells him basically to stop the search for Kim but not before acquiring some information from him. Bryan seeks out a prostitute in order to put a microphone on the Albanian pimp. He uses a translator to find out where to go next, a construction site where the Albanians keep their “Assets”. He makes a mess out of the construction site and rescues a drugged girl from the Albanians (2nd threshold) which had Kim’s jacket, she is in a pretty bad condition so he has to cure her in order to find where she had gotten it. She gets cured and tells him where she got it, in a place called Rue Paradis. Jean-Claude tries to capture Bryan because of the construction yard mess but he outsmarts him. Bryan goes to the house with the red door making himself look like a crooked police agent. He finds Marco from Tropoya (3rd threshold) and knocks everyone in the place out of commission, takes Marco and tortures him to find that the head of the operation in Patrice Saint-Claire. Brian uses Jean-Claude (4th threshold) to locate Saint-Claire, he finds out Jean-Claude is crooked and shoots his wife in order to make him cooperate which ends the second act and happens to be the second plot point because now he knows where Kim is. Bryan crashes Saint-Claire’s party and forces one of the bidders to bid on Kim for him. He gets captured by Saint-Clare but escapes then threatens Saint-Clare for information on where Kim’s buyer is; Bryan then kills Saint-Clare (5th threshold). He goes to the Sheikh’s boat has a very intense fight with his personal bodyguard (6th threshold) and then kills the sheikh and escapes with Kim.

    8. When does the hero know what to do to win?
Bryan knows what to do from the begging but he knows where to go after he deals with Saint-Clare.

    9. Does he?
He rescues Kim and takes her back home.

    10. Describe the hero’s transformation (called the character arc).
Bryan does not really change much but he does show off all of his acquired skills and abilities from his last profession. He does change his relationship with Kim, Lenore, and Stuart.

    3. What is the crisis that unbalances his world?

The time that his daughter Kim is kidnapped by the Albanian Mafia, Mills goes beyond the ordinary world into the special world.

    4. What is the special world?

As soon as his daughter is kidnapped, he started to implement the strategy that he used to do when he worked as a CIA agent, so he becomes a special agent looking for his daughter, and doing whatever it takes to recover his daughter such as killing and tricking the villains.

    5. Who are his allies and antagonists?

Sam and Jean Claude are the allies that help Mills to start the quest for Kim, but unfortunately Jean-Claude proves he was a shape shifter and at the end he was the antagonist together with Saint-Claire who was the biggest mob of the mafia.

    6. Who or what delivers his call to adventure?

    Hero:
Bryan Mills, a retired agent (“Preventer”) for the government who is trying to make up for the time he did not have the chance to spend with his daughter (Kim) due to his loyalty and sacrifice for his country. He is a man that pays a lot of attention to detail.

    Ordinary World:
Bryan moved to a nearer location to where his daughter was living along with his ex-wife and her husband. He has some issues from the past with his wife who seems to hold a grudge on Bryan for all the time he had failed her and their daughter as a husband and father. These issues make Bryan’s efforts toward his daughter somewhat difficult. Bryan holds a relationship with his friend, with which he used to work with as a special government agent.

What is the crisis that unbalances his world?
The crisis that unbalances Bryan’s world is the kidnapping of his daughter and her friend which occurs in Paris (Bryan lives in the United States).

    What is the special world?
The ‘special world’ of this story is Paris, where Bryan has to make his way to finding the information necessary for him to save his daughter before it is too late and she is lost forever.

Who are his allies and antagonists?
His only ally (and also the shape-shifter of this story) in this foreign country is Jean-Claude. Jean-Claude only helps Bryan with a small piece of information and then provides more information by force once he is already established as one of Bryan’s enemies. Saint-Claire is one antagonist of the story that deals in the business of selling Bryan’s daughter. Another antagonist is the Albanian boss who buys Kim from Saint-Claire.

Who or what delivers his call to adventure?
Marco from Tropoja delivers the call to adventure to Bryan when speaking with him through the phone. Bryan makes threats and in a way asks for the release of his daughter before things got ugly. Marco challenges Bryan wishing him good luck on accomplishing all that he had threatened to do so.

Define the three acts according to the two main plot points.
The first act consists of showing Bryan’s life and ordinary world where he gets together with friends, does some work on the side, buys his daughter a gift for her birthday and overall focuses on getting close to his daughter.

The second act starts once Bryan is wished good luck by Marco. Bryan then proceeds to travel to Paris and initiate his investigation for finding his daughter. The challenges in this act include: finding Peter, meeting with Jean-Claude, attaching a microphone on a pimp which would lead him to a construction site, finding Kim’s jacket, helping the girl holding Kim’s jacket recover and finding out about “The Red Door” on Rue de Paradis, and finding Marco from Tropoja.

The third act begins once Marco from Tropoja tells Bryan about Saint-Claire after being tortured. Bryan then returns to his “friend,” Jean Claude, in order to obtain more information about Saint-Claire’s location. Bryan finds Saint-Claire and his daughter but is stopped before he is able to do anything about it. Bryan recovers from his situation, murders Saint-Claire and sets off to Kim’s nearby location. Bryan kills the Albanian boss that had bought Kim.

When does the hero know what to do to win?
Bryan knows what to do to get his daughter back when Marco from Tropoja tells him about Saint-Claire’s location.

    Does he?
    Fortunately, Bryan saves his daughter

Describe the hero’s transformation (called the character arc).
Bryan goes through very little transformation throughout the movie. Although, the ordinary world itself does go through some changes. Bryan now has more respect and leisure from his ex-wife and is able to easier develop his relationship with his daughter.
